Duke Ellington

Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington (Washington D.C., 29 de abril de 1899 - Nueva York, 24 de mayo de 1974), Duke Ellington, compositor, director y pianista estadounidense de jazz. Está considerado, según la crítica, como uno de los más importantes e influyentes compositor de jazz de la historia, junto a Louis Armstrong y Charlie Parker. Su biógrafo, Derek Jewell, afirma que Ellington pudo llegar a escribir unas 2.000 piezas musicales durante toda su vida, si bien las que creó en trozos de papel luego perdidos son incontables, pudiéndose elevar la estimación total de obras compuestas incluso hasta 5.000 piezas.
